Resilience

As a barrier island, Hilton Head Island is vulnerable to sea level rise and other climate-related impacts. To safeguard the island's infrastructure and developed areas, it is essential to plan for greater resiliency against future storm events and potential sea level rise.

To address this need, the Town has engaged a highly qualified firm to develop a Resilience Plan for Sea Level Rise and Climate Adaptation tailored specifically to Hilton Head Island. As part of this effort, consultants are gathering data and conducting a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis related to sea level rise and climate adaptation.

The information collected will guide administrative decisions, public policy, and infrastructure investments. By using the latest models and accurate future projections, we can assess vulnerabilities and strengthen our ability to adapt — implementing tools and actions that protect the short- and long-term interests of our residents, businesses, and public infrastructure.
